sleeper 1972.
The first time I ever saw Manchester Orchestra was in a little shack called New Brookland Tavern. It was in August of 2007. Columbia, SC is known for its hot summers, and the air conditioner in New Brookland was broken at that time. I'm almost sure it had to be at least 120 degrees in that room, and there were probably 150 people packed in the small space of the venue. Even with all of that, it was probably one of the most amazing concerts I've ever been to.
When they played "Sleeper 1972," the entire crowd was silent through the whole song. It was an incredibly moving experience, so moving that I can hardly explain it. It was amazing to see how much emotion was coming from Andy. And that emotion clearly hit the rest of the audience with a huge force, because the majority of the crowd was crying during the song. Myself included. It was so touching. I felt connected with everyone there. I will never forget those three minutes for as long as I live.
